I’m guessing that €2,595 is not as crazy as it sounds for high-end pens, but does the calendar function make sense in such a product?

It uses a ratchet piston-fill mechanism for the calendar which I am guessing is like a mechanical watch, but all of the clever stuff in the world does not necessarily bring two disparate products together seamlessly.
