Apple announces Lossless Audio that you cannot play on wireless Apple devices
Apple today announced Apple Music is bringing industry-leading sound quality to subscribers with the addition of Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos. AirPods?, ?AirPods Pro?, and ?AirPods Max? are limited to the Bluetooth AAC codec when paired with an iPhone, and won't be able to stream ?Apple Music? lossless files, Apple confirmed to T3.
Apple did not mention ?AirPods? compatibility in its press release announcing the new functionality, and on its website, Apple confirms that lossless audio can be listened to on an ?iPhone?, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV, and T3 also says that HomePod is compatible even though it wasn't listed in Apple's announcement... I understand the technical limitations here, but it feels like a misstep with so much marketing and development having been put into the AirPods range. I believe that for most people the true benefit of lossless will come through headphones and practically all of Apple's offerings are incompatible.
The company has pushed wireless audio to the point of even removing audio jacks and then offers the best quality music for wired products.
It is either just the way it is or there is a new wired product on the way. AirPods with detachable lightning cable anyone?
