As I rode the subway home to Bedford-Stuyvesant, I watched as the video clocked 1 million views, then 2 million. Up up up. Disgusting replies flooded in by the thousands: That’s what you get for supporting woke policies; should have carried a gun; looks planned. By the time I got home, I had deleted the app from my phone… More here.
X is almost done for me. If you can ignore the racism, the trolling and the bullshit, it still remains a largely negative space.
I’ve been on Twitter since April 2008. I loved it at first. Breaking news before the mainstream got wind of stuff, some funny, some really left field interesting stuff I wouldn’t have otherwise come across. Then it got a bit antsy. Idiots started appearing. I nearly ditched it when Space Karen took over, but I’ve hung on as I follow a lot of accounts that aren’t anywhere else (yet). But the ads, toxicity, functional decisions made by the owner have made it an absolute binfire, and it, and he is getting worse if that’s even possible.
I’m done with it. I’m far more active on Threads, and the engagement is better. Friendlier, no ads.
Tried Bluesky but it feels too US centric. Tried Mastodon but feels too niche and hippy (i know I shouldn’t use words like that). Threads feels like Twitter used to be when it was good, but with added bonuses - longer posts, can post more than 4 images, no ads.
I’ll hang on to my Twitter account rather than deactivating it yet, just to keep up with a couple of accounts, but I’m a Threads man now.
I only use it for news and weather, so I haven’t seen the negativity.
