Has the Apple Watch finally got a decent competitor?
I wrote about Casio being well placed to rival the Apple Watch and other fitness trackers many years ago and it appears that a competitor has finally arrived. The DW-H5600 will wear like a normal watch, will offer decent battery performance, is bulletproof and should give the majority of people the fitness tracking they need.
If you want true tracking and lots of fitness variety you should really go the Garmin route, but the Apple Watch dominates the smartwatch industry (and the entire watch industry?) and appears to get more popular by the day.
For many people, however, the Apple Watch is too common, too expensive and doesn't offer that real watch feeling that a G-Shock can. My personal opinion is that a G-Shock is the same as the Apple Watch in terms of horological prowess, but the sheer simple practicality of a G-Shock will win for me.
And there is something classic and traditional about a G-Shock, even one as thick as this, that floats my boat a little more than the small Apple computer on the wrist sense that the most popular watch of all brings. This may just be the first true Apple Watch competitor, well, at least it is in my mind.
