How many Kindle Scribes are breaking?

My Kindle Scribe would not turn on this morning no matter what I did, it is 2 days old.

I called Amazon who were helpful as ever, but the rep made the error of saying "We have had reports of a problem on the Scribe".

We got it working by plugging into power and holding the power button for 10 seconds, but he appeared to expect this to happen again and stated that I should just use this process if it happens again.

Of course I advised that if it keeps happening it will need to be returned, but my sense is that there could be a problem here, and especially so because a friend of mine also bought a Scribe 2 days ago and had this 'exact' problem yesterday.

So, are we about to see complaints about the Scribe appear soon from multiple users?
