I suspect that many of us look at the new Rabbit R1 and the Human AI Pin as future products that make little sense today, and that is exactly how it should be.
We have been here before so many time. From a time when it was believed that people would suffocate in a car travelling at more than 30mph, when it was believed that a woman riding a bike would cause infertility right up to the early days of the smartphone and even email.
Truth be told, it took the iPhone to make the smartphone a ‘normal’ idea in the minds of most because up until then there were only a few geeks walking around with PDAs, Treos and BlackBerry’s. People mocked me for that and then the iPhone arrived, and the general interest was instantly noticeable.
I remember someone telling me that email was not a good development and they were genuinely scared of it. For most, email feels like a vintage technology today.
The AI Pin is impressive at first glance and could be the start of something, but the vast majority will look at it and think ‘I really do not need that and I do not want that complexity in my life’. They thought the same of mobile phones and latterly smartphones as well.
These devices will come and will be everywhere. I can see that, but even I would not want to get involved in any way currently because I just don’t need it, until everyone is using it and I have little choice.
