The (remarkably ugly) Grand Seiko SBGA231
I spent some time yesterday looking at Grand Seikos and the SBGA231 stood out above all of the others. There is no doubt in my mind that Grand Seiko offers amazing value when you consider the movements, finishing etc and if you ignore the resale value. Some of the watches are close to perfection aesthetically as well, but it feels as if the SBGA231 is attempting to do everything wrong.
It is huge, the case shape is deliberately angular and aggressive, the pushers and crown are huge and the way it sits on the wrist is not comfortable in any way. It goes on, the dial is crowded, the sub-dials feel haphazardly positioned and the hour markers and hands are so big they crowd the dial even further. And it is very expensive for what it is. Safe to say I am not a fan of this particular model.
