I noticed recently that Tesco was making more and more products ‘Clubcard Price’ to the point that the majority of products now require you to own a Clubcard to get the discounted price.
Now, I say ‘discounted’, but is that really the case? The fact is that Tesco is not discounting the products. When I checked the cost of the above product, for example in Morrisons, the price is £3 so what exactly is Tesco offering us aside from overcharging unless you give them your data via a card that they can track?
And then there is Blacks, Boots, Robert Dyas- they have all started doing it. Blacks has virtually every product at a lower price if you are a member of their scheme, but this is for more expensive products such as a jacket that is £110 being only £65 if you are a member.
No company can offer discounts at that level on most products. It appears to be one big scam to make the consumer believe they are getting extra value and to breed false loyalty. I can’t work out how this passes UK trading laws?
