What's the difference between Boris Johnson and Kim Jong-un?
The week started with the idea that UK schoolchildren should all sing a new song called 'One Nation, One Britain'.
It is creepy at best and at worst it is reminiscent of Germany and the Soviet Union many decades ago. Now think about the title and consider that on the day it is supposed to be sung by British schools the Scottish schools will all be on holiday. That really does show a lack of awareness of our supposed union.
And then another idea popped up-
I think this is a wonderful, patriotic and unifying campaign for our country. I will be writing to the Prime Minister to ask him to give it careful consideration and looking for opportunities to discuss further in Parliament.
Imagine that. A picture of the Queen in every home and in the homes of children who do not have enough to eat, who this government did not want to give free school meals to and in the homes of people who are in desperate situations thanks to the pandemic. A pandemic that this government has mismanaged at best and used to its advantage at worst.
This patriotic nonsense and flag waving is designed to hide the incompetence, the corruption and the flawed personalities of the Prime Minister and the majority of his cabinet.
And then today happened-
Our health secretary has been caught having an affair and breaching Covid guidelines while telling the rest of us not to mix households. A few hours later the Prime Minister said he accepted his apology and that he 'considered the matter closed'.
That's awful, but what else can he do? Boris Johnson has such a flawed history with women and an inability to tell the truth that he cannot sack anyone. If he sacks one he has to sack all of them and potentially himself.
And there is a good argument that all of the above works well to hide the consequences of Brexit and the government corruption, and Covid 19 is almost a bonus for them. This is so sad.
