I recently wrote about the Apple Watch SE which in my view offers 95% of the use an Apple Watch Series 9 does and yet it costs substantially less, £180 less as it happens. And even more off the Ultra, but with lesser battery life.
This made me think about other products I use and possibly don't need, but I have bought them because I perceive that I need the extra features.
I use a Kindle 2022 now and it works very well indeed. It costs £84.99 and has a 6" display. The Kindle Oasis, which it replaced, costs £229.99 and has a 7" screen with warm lighting and a couple of buttons as extra benefits. Then again, it does not use USB-C so the savings make perfect sense.
My iPhone 15 Pro is not really needed if I am honest and there is no reason why an iPhone 15 would not suffice. It would be more than quick enough and I have little doubt that the £200 saving would be worth it for the minor reduction in performance.
I use the 1st generation AirPods Pro, but as I when I need to upgrade I see no reason why the 3rd generation AirPods would not do the job. Another saving of £50.
My MacBook Air is also a first generation model and I would not look to go above the bottom of the range because there is simply no need. Technically I am already ticking the right box there so I will ignore Macs for now.
I own the latest generation iPad Air and I use it all of the time. At £849 it is expensive and I suspect that the £679 iPad (256GB) would do the job well. I am slightly on the fence here, but for 95% of people the Air simply would not be worth the extra £170.
If you need an eReader, smartwatch, smartphone, earphones and a tablet you can save a huge £745 by not buying the top of the range model in each category.
Seriously, I am certain that you get 90% of the features and experience for much less than 90% of the cost.
I missed that!
I’m surprised you’re using an iPad now.
